HUTCHINSON — The Great Bend High School Lady Panthers finished second at the Hutchinson swim meet behind Andover on Monday.
GBHS finished with 265 points while Andover scored 412.
Great Bend head coach Stephanie Maier said that her team came out a little sluggish, but that she expected it to happen.
“Our second place finish was where we thought we’d be,” Maier said. “On a Monday after prom, on a day when there’s no school, the girls just didn’t look as focused as they usually are.”
Still, the Lady Panthers had a couple of individual first-place finishes.
Hannah Hildebrand took first place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 27.82.
Maier said she expected her to do well, but was surprised by the top finish her first time this season.
“I put Hannah in there to change things up a little bit,” Maier said. “It was a good meet to try some different things, and she had said she’d like to try it, so we went for it.
“I do need more sprinters, but I need her in other places, too. It does give me some more things to think about going into the (Western Athletic Conference) meet.”
Allison Damm finished in first place in the 500 freestyle, touching in at 6:07.90.
“Allison is still not where she wants to be as far as her time in the 500, but she is still getting better,” Maier said. “She continues to work hard in practice.”
The Lady Panthers host the Great Bend Invitational on Friday starting at 4 p.m. Andover, Dodge City, Hays, Junction City, McPherson, Manhattan, Newton, Salina Central, Salina South, Thomas More Prep-Marian and Hutchinson Trinity are scheduled to attend.
