The Great Bend Middle School 8th grade football team lost its final game of the season 35-6 to Hays. GBMS rushed for 153 yards as backs Wiley Brand and Mason Miranda combined for 137 yards. Brand scored on a 34-yard touchdown.
Defensively, GBMS was led in tackles by Brand with 14 stops, Miranda with eight and Elias Moreno with seven. The GBMS 8th-graders finish with an 0-7 record.
"This is a team that showed tremendous improvement over the season," said Coach Jason Perry. "They became known for their physical toughness on the field."
In the combined B game, GBMS won 12-6. Demetrius Strickland scored on a 24-yard run and Joseph Moeder scored on a 27-yard run.
