GBMS girls soccer team earns victory

DODGE CITY — After a recent 4-4 tie, the Great Bend Middle School girls soccer team secured a 4-0 victory over Dodge City Comanche Middle School.
The eighth-grade girls played aggressive with determination. Arely Reyes gave the Panthers the first goal, followed up by Yulisa Valdez and then Quetzalli Reyes who scored 2 goals in a row giving the Panthers the 4-0 win.
Joselin Pando passed out two assists and Arely Reyes and Casandra Enriquez each had an assist.
Coach Courtney Maska earned her first coaching victory after a 4-4 tie with Dodge City Middle School last week. Cheyenne Roach provided three saves as goalie.
“I was impressed with the way the girls stood their ground against a very aggressive team,” coach Maska said. “They worked well together each girl filling her role and capitalizing on the opportunities when they had them.”
Coach Jessica Loera is leading the Great Bend Middle School B team. Coach Loera continues to work well as a team and are starting to settle into their roles.
Marianna Castillo scored the only the Panthers’ goal. After a hard-fought battle, the Lady Panthers ended in a 1-1 tie. The Panthers also tied Dodge City Middle School 0-0 last week.
The teams will play Garden City Ken Henderson Middle School Thursday at Cavanaugh Field beginning at 4 p.m.
