Coach Muth talking to the team

Great Bend Middle School Wrestling squad competed in the Dodge City Invitational Wrestling Tournament on Saturday November 14th. The Panthers started off strong against Hugoton winning easily. In the second round matchup of their pool Great Bend faced Garden City Middle school resulting in the only loss of the day for the team. The third round matchup of the tournament paired Great Bend against the Liberal West Warriors. Despite being open at the 85 lb. weight class, Great Bend rallied to defeat the Warriors. “You just beat their quarterback,” congratulated many team members as Dylan Lamb came off the mat after pinning Syris Dunlap in the first period. “This win felt good. Our only loss in football this year was to these guys,” said 155 lb. Dylan Lamb. The final pairing of the day for Great Bend was against Garden City Kenneth Henderson. “You can count on Garden City to be tough. They always are. You better be ready to go,” encouraged head coach Norbert Muth as he talked to his group before the fourth place matchup. Great Bend proved victorious earning a fourth place finish with a dual record of 3-1. “I’m pleased with our effort and progress. We had a good day. We need to work on not giving up bonus points,” said Muth. Wrestlers Brantley Baldwin 75 lb., Carson Schooler 90 lb., George Weber 115 lb., Gage Fritz 141 lb., and Kevin Miramontes 180 lb., all went undefeated in all four duals. The next test for the Panthers wrestling program is Saturday the 21st in Clay Center.
