The Grand Opening for the state-of-the-art City of Great Bend Sports Complex was a smashing success Tuesday evening in front of a large crowd.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held between high school baseball games of a Western Athletic Conference doubleheader pitting Great Bend and Garden City.
The honors of the ribbon-cutting went to Mayor Mike Allison, who was accompanied by Great Bend Chamber of Commerce ambassadors and Chamber staff.
Members of the GBHS softball and baseball teams lined the third-base line while Garden City baseball players did the same down the first-base-line for the presentation of colors and The Star-Spangled Banner, sung by Shelly Ramsey.
Allison then threw out the ceremonial first pitch to Great Bend’s Bryce Beck.
Fans received peanuts, Cracker Jack and plastic Sports Complex cups, along with a ticket for a free hot dog and soft drink at the concession stand — all courtesy of the city.
