LIBERAL BOYS 52, GREAT BEND 47

Liberal’s boys held Great Bend to 17 second-half points for a 52-47 Western Athletic Conference basketball victory.
The Panthers (4-15, 2-5 WAC) led 30-29 at halftime, but were outscored 23-17 in the second half. Konner Ireland scored a career high 12 points and Trey Ibarra, Kody Crosby and Jacob Murray scored nine points apiece. The Panthers play Hays High (15-3, 5-1 WAC) at home Friday.
Liberal’s Deladris Green (12), Tim Fitzgerald (11) and Cade Hinke (10) scored in double figures. WAC co-leader Liberal (15-4, 5-1 WAC) took control with a 9-2 scoring run to start the second half. The Panthers got within three points in the fourth quarter.

GREAT BEND GIRLS 48, LIBERAL 37

Great Bend’s girls outscored Liberal 16-8 in the fourth quarter for a 48-37 Western Athletic Conference basketball victory.
Great Bend’s Lauren Welsch scored 18 points and Carley Brack added 15 points. Great Bend (11-8, 5-2 WAC) secures second place in the league. The game was tied 13-13 in a sluggish first half. Great Bend made 2 of 15 3-point goals. The Panthers play Hays High (7-11, 2-5 WAC) at home Friday.
Liberal (10-8, 3-3 WAC) was led by Diamond Bailey with 10 points. Liberal committed 23 turnovers and shot 4 of 14 from the free throw line and 5 of 16 on 3-pointers.
