JUNCTION CITY — The Great Bend High School boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams each finished in eighth place on Saturday morning at the Junction City Invitational.
The Panthers finished with 196 points, and the Lady Panthers finished at 201.
Hays, Maize South and Salina South, which will all by part of Great Bend’s Class 5A regional meet in Newton, competed in the invite.
Great Bend head coach Todd Kaiser said that his teams need to improve before the postseason.
“There were four teams in this meet who will be in the same regional as us, so we had the opportunity to find out where we are at compared to those teams right now,” Kaiser said. “With both teams, we found out that we have some work to do over the next few weeks.”
The Great Bend boys were led by Christian Graham, who finished in 15th place with a time of 17 minutes, 32 seconds.
Karen Razo led the Lady Panthers, finishing 23rd at 16:38.
“We had some good times today,” Kaiser said. “Most of the runners had their best time of the season and two of the three who did not, were within three and 15 seconds of their season-best time.”
Next action for Great Bend will be at the El Dorado Invitational on Saturday at El Dorado Lake. The first race is scheduled to start at 9:45 a.m.
