Welsch leads way with 25 points

EMPORIA — Lauren Welsch stayed red hot with her second consecutive 25-point game as Great Bend’s girls beat Olathe North 65-55 in the seventh place game of the Glacier’s Edge Tournament Saturday.
Regan Unruh added 15 points for the Panthers. The Panthers made 34 of 45 free throws, including 17 free throws in the fourth period.
The game started slowly with a 6-6 tie after one period before the Panthers scored 22 second-quarter points for a 28-21 halftime lead.
Great Bend (6-6) travels to Salina Central Tuesday.

EMPORIA — Lauren Welsch’s 3-pointer forced extra time, but Derby outscored Great Bend’s girls 10-1 in overtime for a 52-43 basketball victory Friday in the Glacier’s Edge Tournament.
Welsch drilled a 3-pointer with five seconds left in regulation for a 42-42 tie. After a Derby turnover, Welsch missed the final attempt in regulation. She finished with 25 points and five 3-pointers.
Derby’s 6-foot-2 Grace Mitchell dominated the shorter Panthers with 32 points, including eight consecutive points in overtime. Mitchell scored 15 points after the fourth quarter.
Regan Unruh, who scored seven points, made the Panthers’ lone point in overtime. Great Bend (5-6) plays Olathe North at 11 a.m. Saturday for seventh place. The Panthers travel to Salina Central next Tuesday.
