DODGE CITY — With a mix of young and experienced players, the Great Bend girls tennis team continues to surprise. Great Bend pushed a Western Athletic Conference rival for first place for the second consecutive tournament. The Garden City Buffaloes edged the Panthers 65-62 in Tuesday’s Dodge City Tennis Invitational. Dodge City edged the Panthers 38-36 in Saturday’s Great Bend Invitational and Garden City placed third (35).
Great Bend’s No. 2 doubles Jessica Nieto and Alexis Folkerts placed first with a 5-0 record. Great Bend’s No. 1 singles Addison Ingram placed third. No. 2 singles Gentry Schneider finished second with a loss to Garden City’s Taryn Tabor for the second consecutive meet. No. 1 doubles Remi Ingram and Abbie Moyers placed third.
Dodge City’s No. 1 singles unbeaten Leah Stein cruised through with a 5-0 record. No. 1 doubles Garden City’s Madison Bellows and Alexis Powell placed first.
