Great Bends golf team made a ninth-place finish

GARDEN CITY —  Great Bend’s golf team struggled to a ninth-place finish (446) Saturday at Buffalo Dunes Golf Course. After a 75-minute frost delay, the day turned out mild and favorable for play.
Kelby Titus led the Panthers with a 95 that placed 37th. Andrew Erb (112), Jared Divis (113) and Aaron Stein (126) also posted high scores.
“Overall, we were disappointed in how we played and competed individually and collectively,” said Great Bend coach Justin McAtee. “Each of them had their individual struggles during the round and each of their scores reflected that. We’ll need to use this first tournament as a learning experience and we will be working extremely hard in the coming weeks to make improvements and be better physically and mentally.”
McAtee is confident Titus will rally to play much better. The other varsity players struggled on the first tournament at Buffalo Dunes.
“Kelby Titus had been playing great in practice and after a very difficult day at Buffalo Dunes, I am certain that he will recover to play much better as the season continues,” McAtee said. “Andrew Erb, Jared Divis, and Aaron Stein experienced their very first tournament at Buffalo Dunes. Their lack of experience at the varsity level was evident.
Garden City (299) captured first place and Buffalo Taylor Larsen was medalist with a 3-under-par 69.
