The second week of Friday Night Live on Cox Channel Kansas will feature a Western Athletic Conference battle between Hays and Great Bend.
The Indians and the Panthers will kick off at 7 p.m. Friday at Great Bend. The game will be televised statewide on Cox 22.
Great Bend will face off against their former football coach.
Bo Black, who led Great Bend to a 83-37 record over the past 13 seasons, is the head coach at Hays High. Tony Crough, who was the defensive coordinator for Great Bend last season, is in his first season as the Panthers’ head coach.
Hays (1-0), a Class 4A Division I team, defeated Class 6A’s Olathe Northwest 12-10 in the season opener. Star quarterback Alex Delton led the Indians on a 94-yard drive and capped it with a 1-yard touchdown run with less than five minutes left in the game. Delton rushed for 84 yards and passed for 73 in the victory.
Great Bend (0-1) opened the season with a 19-0 loss to Leavenworth. The Panthers struggled offensively, converting only seven first downs.
Delton (6-0, 185), who has verbally committed with Kansas State, is considered the No. 4 recruit in Kansas by Rivals.com. Clocked at 4.42 seconds in the 40-yard dash, he also is listed as the No. 16 dual-threat quarterback in the nation.
The coaches also add some intrigue to this matchup.
