BUHLER — Hurdler Jeffery Muiruri captured two hurdles races and the Panthers won the 400-meter relay and the 1,600-meter relay at the Buhler Track Invitational. Camryn Dunekack won the high jump (5-2) and Kerby Depenbusch won the 3,200 meters (9:56.08).
“We had some great performances today on the track,” said Great Bend coach Todd Kaiser. “Both teams placed fourth in the 11-team fields. All of our relays ran their season best times, to go along with a number of season best performances by a number of our athletes in individual events. The kids went out and competed hard today. We had some great finishes to our races today, which is great to see.”
Muiruri led the way with first places in the 110-meter hurdles (14.96) and 300 hurdles (41.06).
“Jeffery Muiruri was his steady self again in the hurdle races and ran outstanding legs on the 4-by100 and 4-by-400 relays,” Kaiser said. “Nick Reed placed in the 200 and ran a great anchor leg on the 4-by-400 to help lead them to a win.”
Kerby Depenbusch captured the 3,200 meters (9:56.08) and was second in the 1,600 (4:36.1).
“Kerby Depenbusch was the iron man today competing in the 1600, 3,200 and running the opening leg on the 4-by-800 relay. He had a great finish to his 3,200 race, nipping Dodge City’s Marcelo Cruz at the finish line, for the win.”
Great Bend captured first place in the 400-meter relay (44.42) with the quartet of Cal Marshall, Nick Reed, Mason YellowWolf and Muiruri competing.
The Panthers also captured the 1,600-meter relay (3:33.21) with Muiruri, Isaiah Davis, YellowWolf, Reed competing.
Other boys highlights — “Cal Marshall did a nice job in the 100 with a seventh-place finish. Mason YellowWolf did a good job in the 400 with sixth place finish and he also ran good legs on the 4-by-400 and 4-by-800 relays. Quinton Elliott and Eric Vazquez did a great job running their career best legs on the 4-by- 800. Devin Boone did a nice job in the discus placing 3rd and he also did a nice job with his career best throw in the javelin.”
LoCora Bryant finished runner-up in the 100 (12.86).
“LoCora Bryant continues to run well for us in the 100 and 200 and keeps improving on her opening leg of the 4-by- 400,” Kaiser said. “Macy Moyers and Baleigh Fry ran well in their individual events and ran well on the 4-by-400 and 4-by- 800 relays. Karen Razo placed second and competed well in the 1,600 (5:41.57) and on our 4-by-800 relay and Kaylan Lagerman ran well on the 4-by-400 and 4-by-800.”
Kate Warren led the field events with a runner-up discus finish (113-1).
“Kate Warren competed well in the discus placing 2nd. Taylor Fuggitt had a good day in the pole vault placing seventh with a season best vault. Camryn Dunekack did a great job in the high jump with a season best and winning height of 5-2.”
