Great Bend JV volleyball team wins tournament

The Great Bend junior varsity team, coached by Traci Miler, took first place in the GBHS  Volleyball Invitational on Saturday at the GBHS Fieldhouse. The Panthers were the overall seventh seed and knocked off some very talented teams to take first The Great Bend freshmen team stepped in to play in the tournament after Wichita Independent could not attend due to injuries
The Great Bend freshman team had a strong showing in playing against varsity competition, finishing with 1-2 record in the tournament.
The Lady Panthers, coached by Alyssa Kroeker, defeated Larned, 25-14, 25-17.
The victory came on the heels of tough losses to Dodge City and Hoisington. In the Dodge City match, Great Bend mounted a 1-0  lead in the match with a solid 25-23 victory.
But the Red Demons won the final two games, 25-17, 15-3, to capture the match.  The second match provided 25-15, 25-14 losses in a match against Hoisington.

HAYS — Sylvan Grove’s Legion baseball team rallied for a 5-4 victory over Ellinwood on Colin Obermueller’s game-winning single in Wednesday’s AA Russell Zone baseball tournament. The game was moved to Hays from Russell because of a unplayable field.Ellinwood (9-10) plays Thursday against the Marysville-Smith Center loser.Ellinwood led 4-1 after 41/2 innings. Sylvan Grove led 1-0 when Dylan Fry scored a first-inning run.Ellinwood’s Levi Swenson scored a second-inning run on a double steal with Evan Johanning.
