When a team has gone undefeated and outscored their opponents for the season 186-80, keeping them focused and motivated can be tough but not for GBMS 8th grade B-team coach, Courtney Maska.
Taking her perfect record to Garden City Horace Good Middle School, the B-team girls played with intensity and after taking an early lead secured a 39-8 victory improving their record to 8-0.
“It’s not how we make mistakes, but how correct them that defines us,” Maska said. “Our goal is to capitalize on their mistakes.”
For the A-team, the story was a little different with GCHG taking an early lead after hitting two three pointers. The Lady Panthers (7-3) battled back, held a 17-12 lead going into halftime. They outscored the Hawks 24-2 in the second half for a 41-14 victory.
“Our depth and presses just wore our opponent out,” said Great Bend coach Kyle Jeffrey. “By the fourth quarter, we took the press off, but scoring against a tired defense became easy.”
