Great Bend Middle School netters compete

LYONS — Great Bend Middle School tennis coach Kelly Brack took the team to Lyons to compete against Lyons, Smoky Valley, Sterling and Hesston. Great Bend’s No. 1 singles Tito Sanchez and No. 3 singles Isaac Avila finished as runners-up at the Lyons Tournament.
No. 1 singles Tito Sanchez (3-1) placed runner-up after defeating Smoky Valley 5-1 and Lyons 5-1. After a small falter against Hesston resulting in a 5-0 setback, Sanchez finished with a 5-0 shutout over Sterling.
No. 2 singles Dustin Emig (2-2) posted victories over Smoky Valley 5-3 and Lyons 5-,1 then lost to Hesston 5-1 and Sterling 5-4 to finish in third place.
No. 3 singles player Isaac Avila (2-1) finished as a runner-up after beating Smoky Valley 5-2 and Sterling 5-1. He lost to Hesston 5-0.
In doubles action, the No. 1 team of Elysse Ellis and Skylar Fletcher (2-2) placed third with wins over Smoky Valley 5-4 and Sterling 5-4. They lost to Lyons 5-2 and Hesston 5-0.
No. 2 doubles partners Dinah Newman and Cadence Barfield (1-3) battled hard with losses to Lyons 5-2, Hesston 5-0, Sterling 5-2 with a win over Smoky Valley 5-2.
The No. 3 doubles team of Kylie Wintholz and Paige Drew (1-3) defeated Lyons 5-2 before falling to Smoky Valley 5-4, Hesston 5-3 and Sterling 5-1.
