The Great Bend Middle School tennis team coached by Renee Buntain and assisted by Kelly Brack took control at its home invitational with a first-place team finish April 13.
No. 1 doubles Sydney Unruh and Rachel Panzer won their division and No. 2 doubles partners Abbie Moyers and Remi Ingram also placed first.
Great Bend’s No. 3 doubles team of Anna Popp and Halle Latham placed second followed by Mollie Phillips and Ruth Williams filing in for Lyons and Laura Daniels and Grace Doughtery filing in for Sterling.
Ellinwood placed second in the team scores. No. 3 doubles Gage Hosman and Shaun Weber placing first. No. 2 doubles Nathan Ringwald and Wittney Hammeke placed runner-up. No. 1 doubles partners Caleb Robl and Lane Klepper finished third.
Ellinwood’s No. 1 singles Matt Huslig finished runner-up to Smokey Valley’s Jake Lewis followed by third-place finisher Emily Frakes of Great Bend.
Ellinwood’s No. 2 singles Cameron Stevenson placed first. Great Bend’s Chris Hayes placed fifth.
No. 3 singles Brody Feist, filling in for Sterling, placed first followed by Great Bend’s runner-up Shiv Karshan. Ellinwood’s Grace Hoskins placed fourth.
Lyons Middle School placed third. No. 1 doubles Pedro Pina and Erik Diaz placed second and No. 2 doubles Azelin Decker and Julissa Cereceres placed third. No. 1 singles Kennedy Winford finished fifth with third-place finishes for No. 2 Mallory Seidel and No. 3 Dakota Fundenberger.
