Great Bend wrestlers place at state

The Great Bend Wrestling Club featured the following place-winners at the 2017 USAWKS State Folkstyle Championships at Topeka Gage Fritz, 14U, state champion; Jace Schartz, 10U, third place; Alex Randolph, 14U, state runner-up; Braxton Richter, 6U, state runner-up; Breanna Ridgeway, 12U girls state champion/girls national champion; Cal Schartz, 6U, state runner-up/8U, fourth place; George Weber, 14U, state runner-up; Cooper Liles, 10U, fourth place; and Drew Liles, 14U, fourth place.

TOPEKA — Gage Fritz and Breanna Ridgeway of the Great Bend Wrestling Club captured state championships at the 2017 USAWKS State Folkstyle Championships at Topeka.
Gage Fritz (14U, 150 pounds) defeated Tommy Carroll of East Kansas, 12-4, in the championship match.
Breanna Ridgeway (12U, 134 pounds) pinned Lezlie Cramer in 48 seconds and won 7-4 in a best-of-three format to capture the state title and girls national championship.
Placing as state runners-up were Great Bend’s Alex Randolph (14U, 135 pounds); Braxton Richter (6U); and George Weber (14U, 130 pounds) and Cal Schartz (6U, 49 pounds) and (8U, fourth place).
Jace Schartz (10U, 79 pounds) placed third and Cooper Liles (10U, 73 pounds) and Drew Liles (14U, 110 pounds) finished fourth.
