MCPHERSON- Grant Harris recorded a second place finish with a 3-1 record in singles play at Monday’s season-opening tennis match at McPherson.
Harris polled an 8-0 shutout victory over McPherson White’s Price Kramer before defeating Andrew McGinnis (Hays) by an 8-1 score. Harris would then down Andrew Snell (McPherson) 8-5 before dropping an 8-0 decision to Newton’s Max DeChamnps.
In doubles competition, Marcos Cerda and Santi Talamantes finished play at 1-3 after defeating the Hays duet of Trent Flora and Jacob Alexander in their first match.
Monday’s match was single bracket for singles and doubles with eight teams competing. The Panther placed fifth in the final standings in front of Derby, Hays and McPherson White. McPherson High topped the standings following Monday’s action.
Ben Dial and Ozioma Ofoma (0-3) and Dorian Lueth (0-4) also represented Great Bend in doubles and singles competition.
The Panthers will host the Great Bend Invitational in a seven-team tournament this Saturday at 9 am.
