Haven baseball sweeps Cardinals

HOISINGTON – The Hoisington Cardinals scored in the first inning of both games, but went scoreless for 14 innings to lose 9-2 and 6-1 to the Haven Wildcats in Friday’s Central Kansas League baseball doubleheader. Hoisington (6-12) has the fourth-best record for the May 15 Hoisington 4A baseball regional behind Nickerson (18-0), Russell (8-6) and Smoky Valley (6-10).

HAVEN 6, HOISINGTON 1 (G1) — The Cardinals led 1-0 when Jerred Bieberle scored on Myles Menges’ first-inning groundout.

Haven’s Wyatt Boese delivered a fourth-inning sacrifice fly. Casey Cooprider singled home a fifth-inning run and Tanner Regier scored on an error and James Henkle scored the Wildcats’ fourth run.

Nathan Rohling’s sixth-inning triple scored Caleb Miller. Rohling scored on Jackson States’ sacrifice fly.

HAVEN 9, HOISINGTON 2 (G2) — Haven broke a 2-2 tie with seven runs in its final two at-bats. Haven’s Jevon Miller drove in three runs and Ryan Jenkins drove home two runs.

Haven’s Henkle doubled home a first-inning run. Isaac Prosser’s two-run single scored Bieberle and for a 2-1 lead. Haven’s Ryan Jenkins hit a sacrifice fly for a 2-2 tie after five innings.

Jevon Miller, Cooprider, Jenkins and Haxton Smith delivered sixth-inning RBIs. Jackson States and Jevon Miller drove two seventh-inning runs.
