HAYS – Hoisington’s Legion baseball team rallied for a 6-3 victory over the Hays Monarchs to gain a split of Friday’s doubleheader. TMP won the opener 7-4.
TMP MONARCHS 7, HOISINGTON 4 — Creighton Renz had three hits to spark the Monarchs. Cole Zimmerman yielded no earned runs.
Hoisington’s Alex Schremmer scored on a wild pitch and Kyle Lang’s sacrifice fly scored Myles Menges in a two-run first inning.
Schremmer’s sacrifice fly scored Kade Urban in the second inning. Hoisington loaded the bases in the seventh inning when Braxton Donovan scored on a double-play groundball.
HOISINGTON 6, TMP MONARCHS 3 — Hoisington’s Jeremy Breit pitched five solid innings and Menges earned the save with striking out Eston Brown and Trent Mayo with the bases loaded in the seventh inning. Shortstop Schremmer and first baseman Hunter Hanzlick turned a fifth-inning double play.
Schremmer singled and scored on a first-inning error. Kyle Lang’s RBI single scored Breit for a 2-0 lead. Hanzlick’s groundout scored Schremmer after a walk, stolen base and third-inning error.
Trey Byers’ single scored Kaleb Blazek after a fourth-inning walk and bunt by Braxton Donovan. Breit’s fifth-inning sacrifice fly scored Hanzlick after two errors and a passed ball. Hanzlick’s double scored Jerrod Bieberle after a sixth-inning single and stolen base.
