HOISINGTON — No. 1 ranked Phillipsburg outscored Hoisington 28-0 after halftime for a 35-6 Class 3A second round football playoff victory. The Panthers (11-0) play at Hesston (8-3) in next week’s quarterfinals.
Hoisington tailback Sean Urban scored on a 35-yard touchdown and rushed for 89 yards on 20 carries. Urban rushed for 79 first-half yards. Cardinal Eric Barrett intercepted a pass.
Hoisington (7-4) lost a home playoff game for the first time since 2008 when it lost to Beloit 52-20. Hoisington’s senior class finished with a school record 39-8 mark.
Panther Kirk Coomes scored two touchdowns and rushed for 179 yards on 19 carries. Trey Sides, John Gower and Treylan Gross also scored touchdowns as the Panthers rushed for 305 yards.
