Hoisingtons Broeder 2nd at Ellinwood meet

ELLINWOOD — Hoisington High’s Ryan Broeder posted a 6-over-par 70 (35-35) and lost a tiebreaker for first place honors at the Ellinwood Golf Tournament at Grove Park Golf Course. First-place medalist Zach Schissler of Sterling also posted a 70 (36-34).
Hoisington’s Matt Mettling finished sixth with a 78 (40-38). Ellinwood’s Connor Ewing finished seventh, 79 (37-42); and Hoisington’s Chris Wright placed eighth, 79 (36-43).
Sterling finished first (305) and Hoisington (313) finished second.

HAYS — Sylvan Grove’s Legion baseball team rallied for a 5-4 victory over Ellinwood on Colin Obermueller’s game-winning single in Wednesday’s AA Russell Zone baseball tournament. The game was moved to Hays from Russell because of a unplayable field.Ellinwood (9-10) plays Thursday against the Marysville-Smith Center loser.Ellinwood led 4-1 after 41/2 innings. Sylvan Grove led 1-0 when Dylan Fry scored a first-inning run.Ellinwood’s Levi Swenson scored a second-inning run on a double steal with Evan Johanning.
