LARNED—The Larned boys completed a season sweep of the Lyons Lions here Tuesday evening as they ran away in the fourth quarter for a 49-32 victory.
It was a game of unusual swings as Larned won the first quarter 13-1 and the fourth quarter 19-5 while Lyons had the edge in the second quarter 12-9 and the third 14-8.
Larned coach Jerrod Smith said, “We kind of lost our focus in the second and third quarters and stopped rebounding and running our offense. I wish we would have played all four quarters the way we played the first and fourth but I am happy for the kids, happy to get a win.”
With the victory, coupled with Hoisington’s 43-40 upset of Pratt, Larned becomes the #3 seed at the Holcomb 4A-II Sub State on Friday, March 2nd and will play Hugoton. Pratt will take on the #1-seeded Holcomb Longhorns.
Lyons falls to 2-18 on the season, 1-9 in Central Kansas League play. The Lions made 9 of 31 field goal attempts and 9 of 15 free throws. They were led in scoring by Terek Smith with 11 while Wlisses Landeros and Emmanuel Gonzalez chipped in 6 apiece.
Larned impoved to 9-11 for the season and 4-6 in CKL play. The Indians shot a hot 18 of 32 from the field and added 6 of 8 from the charity stripe. Mason Perez had 10 points but received ample backup from Brock Skelton with 9, Thomas Harmon 8 and Alex Barger 6.
