KINGMAN — The Hoisington Cardinal baseball team led Kingman 17-10 after a shocking 14-run inning.
But the Cardinals’ pitching collapsed in Kingman’s 16-run sixth-inning that sparked the Eagles’ wild 26-19 opening victory. The Eagles completed a sweep with a 16-6 victory on a windswept Tuesday with winds blowing 30 mph. Kingman improves to 3-1 and Hoisington drops to 2-2.
KINGMAN 26, HOISINGTON 19 (G1)— Hoisington’s first-game victory was six outs away after the Cardinals’ amazing 14-run sixth inning.
Seventeen Kingman runners reached base in a 16-run inning. Logan Waldschmidt and Chris Ontiveros tripled and Garrett Willert, Michael Milford and Brendan McBeth doubled in the inning that featured 10 hits and five baserunners reaching on a walk or hit-by-pitch.
The Cardinals led 2-0 when Myles Menges doubled home a run and scored on a wild pitch. Kingman’s Ontiveros drove home two runs and Kyle Livingston and Gage Oller added RBIs for a 4-2 lead. Trey Byers scored on a groundout for a 4-3 score.
Kingman’s Oller and Joe McGinnis drove in runs for a 6-3 lead. Oller singled home two runs in a four-run fifth inning for a 10-3 lead.
Holt Hanzlick and Braxton Donovan delivered two-run doubles and Byers, Prosser and Specht added RBI base hits in a 14-run sixth inning for a 17-10 lead. Jerred Bieberle, Braxton Donovan and Menges forced home runs on bases-loaded walks and Jacob Specht drove home a run on a groundout.
KINGMAN 17, HOISINGTON 7 (G2)— Hoisington’s Menges drove home three runs in a losing effort.
Isaac Prosser’s RBI single tied the score 1-1 after 11/2 innings. Kingman took charge with a seven-run second inning. Ontiveros hit a two-run double and Logan Waldschmidt, Milford and McBeth drove in runs. McGinnis and Ontiveros scored on errors for an 8-1 lead.
Phillip Donecker hit a two-run single and Bieberle scored on an error for an 8-4 score after 21/2 innings. Gage Pickering’s two-run single made it 10-4.
Cardinal Menges singled home two runs for a 10-6 score after 31/2 innings. Garrett Waldschmidt hit a two-run single and Logan Waldschmidt followed with a sacrifice fly for a 13-6 lead. Logan Waldschmidt’s RBI single ended the game after two fifth-inning runs scored.
