Lady Cardinals beat Lady Indians

LARNED — Larned kept pace with Hoisington in the first eight minutes, trailing 15-14.
The Lady Cardinals exploded for 22 points in the second quarter to lead 37-23 heading into intermission.
Jordin Greer scored 22 points, and Abi Rziha added 17 for Hoisington, which finished third at the Keady Basketball Classic.
Bailey Schartz and Tiara Diaz each scored eight points to lead the Lady Indians.

St. John 44, Spearville 18
LARNED — Spearville’s size advantage didn’t account for much as the St. John Lady Tigers cruised to a first-place victory at the classic.
Jamie Waters scored a team-leading 12 points for St. John.
Morgan Osborne added nine points, and Alexis Witt and Teresa Christie scored eight apiece.
The Lady Tigers defense held the Lady Lancers to five points in the first half.
Only three players from Spearville scored points in the rout.

Ellinwood 61, Kiowa County 41
LARNED — Sophie Hayes scored 18 points to lead Ellinwood over Kiowa County in the fifth-place game in the classic.
Rachel Doll added 14 points as the Lady Eagles soared to a 34-16 lead by intermission.
Blake Wilt joined her teammates in double figures with 10 points.

Kinsley 40, Macksville 28
LARNED — Macksville didn’t score a point until the second quarter in a loss to Kinsley in the seventh-place game of the classic.
Karissa Langlois led the Lady Mustangs with nine points, going  6-for-10 from the free-throw line. She made one 3-pointer.
Tara Bunker added six points for the Mustangs.

Central Plains 55, Plainville 32
RUSSELL — Central Plains came out strong in the second half, outscoring Plainville 20-7 in the third quarter to run away with the game.
Janae Hekele scored a game-high 18 points, including 10 in the third period.
Jennifer Hitschmann added 12 points for the Lady Oilers.

Otis-Bison 45, Chase 28
FAIRFIELD — Otis-Bison dominated the first half, leading 28-10 heading into intermission.
Hannah Bannister hit a pair of 3-pointers on her way to a team-high 12 points.
Annie Kraisinger joined her in double figures with 11 points.

BOYS
St. John 69, Macksville 53
LARNED — St. John improved to 4-0 on the season with a first-place finish at the classic.
Macksville senior post player Adolfo Ibarra scored a game-high 19 points, but St. John had three in double figures.
Spencer Nusser led the Tigers with 17 points.
Zuriel Reyes added 14 points, and Dean Wade put in 13.

Hoisington 66, Kiowa County 31
LARNED — A 24-point performance from Kiowa County’s Caleb Davis wasn’t enough to stop Hoisington from a third-place finish at the classic.
Cody Stetler led the Cardinals, which led 56-33 heading into the final eight minutes, with 20 points.
Davis drilled six 3-pointers and made 6 of 6 free throws in the game to lead the Mavericks.

Larned 64, Kinsley 54
LARNED — Larned didn’t wait to take a lead, finishing the first quarter ahead 19-9.
The Indians stretched the lead to 34-18 by halftime in winning fifth place in the classic.
Brayden Smith scored a team-high 15 points for the Indians.
Michael Reece added 14.

Spearville 49, Ellinwood 48
LARNED — Ellinwood led 44-37 heading into the final quarter, but Spearville was able to rally for a one-point win.
Cody Isern and Kyle Blakeslee each scored 14 points to lead the Eagles, who were held to four points in the final eight minutes.
Kaden Stein scored a game-high 21 points to lead Spearville.

Central Plains 54, Lincoln 20
RUSSELL — Central Plains improved to 3-1 on the season after seizing third place at the Amos Morris/George Stephens Classic.
The Oilers held a steady lead throughout the game, getting a game-high 18 points from Layne Bieberle.
Braeden Crites added 11 points for Central Plains.
