The Great Bend High School girls’ swim team locked up another first-place finish this season, claiming the top spot in a quadrangular on Monday evening at Kirkman Activity Center.
The Lady Panthers finished with 358 points, topping second-place Hutchinson, which finished with 288 points.
“It’s always nice to win a meet, so obviously I’m happy with the team result,” GBHS head coach Steve Beaumont said. “Individually, we really didn’t have the time improvements we have had the first two meets. We still have work to do on our conditioning and learning how to mentally prepare to compete and swim fast consistently.
It’s a work in process, and overall we are making good strides to doing those things. Our effort was there, though, so I’m definitely happy with that.”
Even without the time improvements, Great Bend managed six first-place finishes and either first or second in every event in the meet.
Michaela Cape, Kira Cook, Hannah Hildebrand and Kylee Spray combined to get things started with the top time in the 200-meter medley relay at 2:08.35.
Hildebrand won the 50 freestyle (26.90) and the 100 fly (1:07.38).
Brenna Haines claimed first place in the 500 freestyle (6:43.29).
Cape won the 100 backstroke (1:11.17).
Hildebrand, Katy Jerke, Hadley Murphy and Cape combined in the 400 freestyle for first place (4:18.38).
