The regular season is over.
For Great Bend High School’s volleyball team, the regular season went well.
The Lady Panthers have a 27-9 record, a No. 10 ranking in Class 5A on the Kansas Volleyball Association poll, and perhaps most importantly, a No. 1 seed in their 5A sub-state tournament.
Great Bend travels to a sub-state that starts at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Liberal. It has to win two matches to move on to the state tournament.
The Lady Panthers’ first challenge is Arkansas City, the No. 8 seed with a 5-30 record.
Waiting in the wings is one of two Western Athletic Conference foes — Liberal or Hays.
The two WAC teams square off in a first-round match, with the winner facing the winner of the Great Bend-Arkansas City match.
Liberal is the fourth seed at 21-16 on the season. Hays is 12-22 and is the fifth seed.
