Lady Tigers rebound from first loss with big win

NORWICH — It was a nice rebound on Tuesday night after losing its first game this season for the St. John-Hudson High School girls’ basketball team.
Three days after falling 26-24 in overtime to Wichita South, which is ranked No. 3 in Class 6A in the latest Kansas Basketball Coaches Association poll, the Lady Tigers demolished Norwich 46-17.
St. John, which is No. 3 in 1A Division-I, didn’t let 1A Division-II’s No. 2-ranked Norwich score more than nine points in any quarter.
Morgan Osborne led the Lady Tigers with 22 points.
Jamie Waters finished with 10 for St. John (13-1).
St. John hosts Central Plains on Friday night.

Central Plains 58, Otis-Bison 38
CLAFLIN — Central Plains blanked Otis-Bison in the first quarter, leading 19-0 after eight minutes.
Jennifer Hitschmann, who scored 10 points in the opening quarter, finished with a team-leading 16 points for the Lady Oilers.
Hannah Bannister led the Lady Cougars with a game-high 23 points.
Otis-Bison is back in action on Tuesday night when it travels to Trego.

TMP Marian 54, Ellinwood 46
HAYS — Ellinwood just couldn’t keep up with Thomas More Prep Marian on Tuesday night.
The Monarchs led 38-26 at intermission and held on for a Mid-Central Activities Association win.
Rachel Doll led the Lady Eagles with 14 points.
Kelsey Ward added 10 points.
Ellinwood hosts Larned on Friday night.

La Crosse 56, Macksville 41
MACKSVILLE — Trailing early, Macksville couldn’t make up ground against La Crosse.
Mindy Wood led the Lady Mustangs with 15 points.
Tara Bunker scored 12 points, and Karissa Langlois added 11 for Macksville.
The Lady Mustangs host Victoria on Friday night.

BOYS
St. John 66, Norwich 35
NORWICH — A 23-2 lead after eight minutes allowed St. John to coast to its 14th straight win this season.
Dean Wade scored 21 points to lead the undefeated Tigers, who are No. 1 in 1A Division-I.
Spencer Nusser added 12 points.
Trey Nelson grabbed a team-leading nine rebounds for the Tigers.

Central Plains 56, Otis-Bison 45
CLAFLIN — A 24-point explosion in the first quarter fueled by four 3-pointers from Konner Hickel helped Central Plains top Otis-Bison.
Layne Bieberle finished with a game-high 17 points, followed by Hickel’s 14 points.
Braeden Crites added 10 points for the Oilers.
Tyler Maier led the Cougars with 14 points.
Dylan Wissman added 13 points.

Stafford 86, Pratt-Skyline 61
STAFFORD — Stafford’s Taylor Newell scored a game-high 27 points.
Ethan Johnson backed that up with 25 points as the Trojans romped past Pratt-Skyline.
Newell hit five of the Trojans’ seven 3-pointers in the game.
Derek McClure added 16 points for Stafford, which travels to South Barber on Friday night.

Macksville 76, La Crose 55
MACKSVILLE — Adolfo Ibarra scored 24 points to lead Macksville past La Crosse.
Ibarra grabbed 11 rebounds for a double-double.
Tanner Tranbarger and Jordan Welch each added 15 points for the Mustangs.
Tranbarger had eight steals in the victory.

TMP Marian 65, Ellinwood 61
HAYS — A rally fell shot for Ellinwood, which scored 22 points in the final quarter.
Kyle Blakeslee finished with a game-high 18 points, shooting 6 of 7 from the free-throw line.
Derek Ward added 11 points for the Eagles.
