LARNED — Top-seeded Larned defeated Lakin 8-1 in the regional championship game to qualify for the Class 3A state baseball tournament. Larned (17-3) qualifies for the Class 3A state tournament at Manhattan
Pitcher Isiah Perez struck out 10 batters and delivered a three-run double that cleared the bases in a seven-run fourth inning. The Indians took advantage of nine walks and a hit batter.
Jon Herter was hit a by a pitch, Gage Skelton singled and Alex Barger reached on a bunt to load the bases. Carson Smith, Mason Schartz and Evan Skelton forced home runs on back-to-back walks for a 3-1 lead. Landon Erway singled home Smith for a 4-1 lead. Perez’s double drove home Schartz, Evan Skelton and Erway for a 7-1 lead. Schartz scored the Indians final run after a fifth-inning double.
LARNED 13, ELLSWORTH 3 — Larned used a six-run sixth inning for a 13-3 run rule victory. Erway drilled a pair of two-run singles and a fielder’s choice that drove in a run. Schartz and Perez each drove home two runs. Erway worked three shutout innings to earn the victory after Ellsworth led 2-0 after two innings.
Perez and Herter drove in runs in a three-run third inning. The Indians added two runs in the fourth inning and one more in the fifth. Ellsworth contributed seven errors that led to 12 unearned runs.
