HALSTEAD – Larned baseball coach Chad Erway guaranteed the Indians would work hard to improve after getting outscored 29-2 by defending champion Nickerson.

The Indians delivered with an emphatic 11-3 and 7-4 Central Kansas League sweep over Halstead (4-6) Friday. The Indians (4-8) plays Hoisington (3-6) at home Tuesday.

LARNED 11, HALSTEAD 3 (G1) – Larned took advantage of four errors to score seven unearned runs. Pitcher Alex Barger struck out eight batters in 42/3 innings.

Mason Perez scored on a wild pitch after reaching base on a third-inning strikeout. Gladow scored on a fouth-inning passed ball after a steal and passed ball.

Halstead’s David Schulte delivered an RBI single and scored on a fourth-inning error for a 2-2 tie.

Larned parlayed two walks, a hit batter and error for a six-run fifth inning. Perez and Jordan Taylor hit RBI singles and Barger drove home two runs. Carson Smith and Tristen Burger scored on errors and Gladow scored on a balk for a 8-2 lead.

Larned’s Mello Bryant scored on a wild pitch, Perez scored on an error and Smith scored on Barger’s RBI double for an 11-2 lead.

LARNED 7, HALSTEAD 4 (G1) – Larned’s Smith home three runs and pitcher Gladow threw 42/3 innings to earn the victory. The Indians benefited from seven walks and two errors that led to five unearned runs.

Shevin Martin and Smyth forced home runs on bases-loaded walks. Martin scored on a wild pitch and Barger’s hit-by-pitch produced a four-run second inning. Perez’s single scored Brayden Rupp and Stelter scored on a groundout for a 6-0 lead. Smith’s single scored Bryant for a 7-1 lead after 41/2 innings.

Halstead’s Kaden Lopez and David Schulte, Dalton Kraus and carter Hiebert delivered RBI singles.
