Larned golfer earns first-place finish in Hutch

HUTCHINSON — Larned High golfer Michael Reece earned first-place medalist honors with a 7-over-par 79 Monday at The Highlands Golf Club.
Reece birdied Nos. 11 and No. 18 to finish two strokes ahead of Sterling’s Caleb Hendricks. Reece is a returning state qualifier. Players had to battle swirling winds and intermittent rain. Larned finished second with a 350 total.
Larned’s Duskin Bowman finished sixth (87) and Colton Massey finished seventh (88).

HAYS — Sylvan Grove’s Legion baseball team rallied for a 5-4 victory over Ellinwood on Colin Obermueller’s game-winning single in Wednesday’s AA Russell Zone baseball tournament. The game was moved to Hays from Russell because of a unplayable field.Ellinwood (9-10) plays Thursday against the Marysville-Smith Center loser.Ellinwood led 4-1 after 41/2 innings. Sylvan Grove led 1-0 when Dylan Fry scored a first-inning run.Ellinwood’s Levi Swenson scored a second-inning run on a double steal with Evan Johanning.
