Larned softball loses opener
Larned Indians

HAYS — Larned’s poor baserunning haunted the Indians in a 7-5 regional softball loss to Plainville-Stockton Wednesday. The Indians had three runners doubled off base on infield pop flies and two others tagged out at home and third base.
The Indians (9-12) featured one senior — Tymarra Bryant.
The Cardinals led 4-0 when play was delayed by rainy weather Monday. They scored two runs in the first inning and added a run in the third inning and one run in the fourth when play was stopped.
The Cardinals built a 7-0 lead when Madi Rogers drilled a two-run single off pitcher Mattie Glover. The Cardinals committed six errors, but they compensated with three double plays and threw two other runners out on the bases.
Larned’s Glover kept the Indians within range with three shutout innings.
Larned rallied with a four-run fourth inning, keyed by three Cardinal errors. Erin Smith reached on an error and scored on a single. Haley Skelton and Tymarra Bryant singled. Two runs scored on wild pitches and a fourth run scored on an error. Cardinal catcher Madi Rogers helped slow the rally by picking off a baserunner at third base.
Glover homered in the sixth inning to narrow the margin to 7-5. But Cardinal pitcher Kayla Garvert retired the side in the seventh inning to preserve the lead.
