Larned baseball splits doubleheader

LARNED — The Larned Indians rallied with a three-run seventh inning for a 13-12 victory over Halstead to split Thursday’s Central Kansas League baseball doubleheader doubleheader.
Pinch-runner Brayden Rupp scored the game-winning run after the Indians drew four walks along with Jon Herter’s RBI triple. Larned trailed 9-5 before rallying.
Larned scored 22 runs in the twin bill. But the Indians committed 11 errors that created 10 unearned runs.
The Indians (6-6) play Tuesday at Hoisington. Halstead (5-5, 5-3 CKL) won the opener 20-9.
HALSTEAD 20, LARNED 9 — Halstead’s Layke Heimerman led a 15-hit attack with three RBIs and Tony Morris and John Fulghum added two RBIs apiece.
Herter’s triple scored Dalton Bright and Mason Schartz scored on Bright’s fly ball in the first inning.
Down 10-2, Larned scored five fourth-inning runs. Alex Barger’s two-run double and RBI singles by Gage Skelton and Schartz produced four runs. Herter scored on Mason Burris’ groundball.
Herter scored Larned’s eighth run and Herter’s double scored Skelton with the Indians’ final run.
LARNED 13, HALSTEAD 12 — Larned’s Mason Schartz, Alex Barger and Mason Burris each drove in two runs. Larned drew 10 walks with three hit batters. Four Halstead errors contributed to seven unearned runs.
Indians Dalton Bright, Burris, Hunter Fitzpatrick and Austin Gladow drew seventh-inning walks. Herter’s triple drove home Bright. Barger’s sacrifice fly scored Herter.
Burris delivered a two-run single and Schartz and Fitzpatrick drilled RBI singles in a five-run first inning. Barger’s bases-loaded walk forced a run home.
Halstead led 9-5 thanks to five unearned runs. Skelton’s RBI single and Schartz’s groundout cut the lead to 9-7 after five innings. Two runs scored on Schartz’s fly ball that was misplayed and Carson Smith forced a run home on a bases-loaded walk for a 10-9 lead.
Halstead’s Tony Morris scored on Schulte’s groundball after stealing two bases. Chase VanSteenburg’s RBI single scored David Schulte for a 10-9 lead.
