SALINA — For the second straight weekend, the Great Bend High School junior varsity volleyball team captured first place in an invitational tournament.
A week ago on Saturday, the Lady Panthers won the Scott City Invitational. On Saturday, stepped up their play at the Salina Central, winning four straight matches to improve to 13-5 on the season.
Great Bend beat Wichita Campus, 25-17, 25-21; Concordia, 19-25, 25-18, 15-12; Salina Central, 7-25, 25-22, 15-10; and Salina South, 25-18, 25-22.

GBMS ‘A’ team wins

PHILLIPSBURG — The Great Bend Middle School football “A” team Phillipsburg 14-8 last Thursday.    
Trey Ibarra had a 6-yard scoring run in the second quarter for the Panthers, and Thomas Bobbitt had a 1-yard TD plunge in the third period to provide the difference.
All but three of Great Bend’s 168 yards of total offense came on the ground.    
Phillipsburg scored in the fourth quarter on a 19-yard strip and score and completed the conversion run

‘B’ team gets shutout

Great Bend (1-1) had all of its 123 yards via the run in a 12-0 over Phillipsburg in the “B” game.
Lucas Black had a 47-yard touchdown run, Quinton Elliot had a 27-yard TD run and David DeLeon added 23 yards on the ground.
The leading tacklers were David DeLeon, Jack Pumford and Santiago Talamantes with four apiece.
The next games are Thursday at McPherson, The “A” game will kick  off at 3:45 p.m.

Ellinwood wins Stafford Invite cross-country meet

STAFFORD — The Ellinwood High School boys’ cross country team won the Stafford Invitational on Thursday.
The Eagles finished with a score of 39, beating second-place Andale, which scored 48 points.
Larned took fourth with 87 points and Stafford finished in sixth place with 156.
Ellinwood’s girls tied for first place with Andale, both of which scored 41 points.
Larned’s girls finished in fifth place with 106 points.
