Panther golf places 6th

SALINA — Great Bend’s Taylor Hommertzheim shot 41 to earn a sixth-place medal at Tuesday’s Salina Central Golf Tournament. Four Panthers fired career-low nine-hole scores.
The Panthers finished with a nine-hole score of 180, good for fourth place.
“We had four girls shoot career-best scores and Taylor Hommertzheim was two shots behind the winning score,” said Great Bend coach Travis McAtee. “The team made a good showing, shooting a very respectable 9-hole score of 180.”
Other varsity scores were Halley Sanders 45, Allison Neeland 47, Kaily Griffith 47, and Ashton Young 53.
“The tournament was a step in the right direction for the varsity players,” McAtee said. “The exciting thing for these girls is that there is still room to improve in some areas. We face some big challenges in the coming days with our first two 18-hole tournaments at Dodge City Thursday and Garden City next Monday.”
In the six-hole junior varsity division, Madi Jones shot 31 and placed eighth. Alyx Torres (34), Grace Soupiset (36), Cailee McMullen (36), Kaylee Reiser (36), and Cheyenne Black (36) rounded out the scores in their first tournament.
“Playing the par 3 course was a nice way for them to get some early tournament experience,” he said. “I’m looking forward to each of these girls improving their skill levels as the season continues.”
