DODGE CITY — Great Bend’s Kelby Titus gave away strokes on the final two holes to finish eighth with a 6-over-par 77 at Dodge City Invitational at Mariah Hills Golf Course. Titus is ranked fourth in the Western Athletic Conference with three WAC tournaments remaining. Titus has posted scores of 76, 77 and 77.
“Kelby had a solid day through 16 holes, being tied for the lead, but had a couple unfortunate stumbles late, finishing eight,” said Great Bend coach Travis McAtee. “He was disappointed in how he finished, but had a solid day overall.”
Garden City’s Sion Audrian (74) was medalist by one stroke over Hays High’s Allen Zollinger (75).
Great Bend finished 11th (378) and counted scores by Jared Divis (95), Aaron Stein (99) and Isaac Panzer, (107).
“Aaron Stein had a varsity personal best of 99,” McAtee said. “Hopefully he can take some confidence from this tournament into next week’s busy schedule.
The Panthers’ score showed improvement with a season-best total.
“We have shown some nice improvement over the three tournaments, but still have a long way to go to be more competitive,” McAtee said. “I was encouraged with what I observed. But more work is required to continue improving in scoring. We had a nice day to play with moderate winds, which is rare at DC.”
Great Bend competes at Russell April 27 and Hutchinson April 28 with the Great Bend Invitational scheduled May 1.
