LAWRENCE — The Great Bend High School distance medley relay finished fourth, beating every team from Kansas, and the 3,200-meter relay placed seventh Saturday at the 90th Kansas Relays.
The Panthers’ distance medley relay team of Eric Vazquez, Nick Reed, Mason YellowWolf and Kerby Depenbusch ran a time of 10:47.75 to finish as the fastest Kansas team in the relay. Blue Springs, Mo., Omaha Creighton Prep and St. Louis High finished first, second and third.
The Panthers’ 3,200-meter relay finished seventh (8;15.36) as the second-fastest Kansas finisher behind Maize South. Competing were Eric Vazquez (2:05.02), Connor Griffith (2:05.19), Mason YellowWolf (2:02.95) and Kerby Depenbusch (2:02.21).
Depenbusch finished 14th in the 1,600 meters (4:28.76) as the fourth fastest Kansas finisher.
The Kansas Relays attracts some of the top runners and field event competitors from a multi-state area.
