A two-goal attack in the second half lifted visiting Salina Central to a 2-0 victory over Great Bend Tuesday afternoon at Cavanaugh Fields.
The Panthers converted two goals of their own in the second period but both were recalled do to a pair of offside penalties.
“Things were pretty even for us in the first half,” said coach Gus Prieto. “We started putting pressure on their offense in the second period and they were able to respond to our adjustment.”
“Those two scratched goals really hurt us,” Prieto said. “Those things can really hurt your momentum down the stretch and I think that showed against Salina Central.”
Great Bend begins the season at 0-1 and will begin conference play Thursday evening at Liberal.
The Panthers will then compete next week at the week-long Wichita South Titan Classic. Great Bend will return to Cavanaugh Fields and WAC competition on September 14 as the Panthers host Hays.
