Panther softball earns twin bill split

ANDOVER – Great Bend’s softball team rallied for a 16-0 run-rule victory over Hutchinson High to salvage a split Wednesday. Andover shut out the Panthers 10-0 in the first game at Andover. Great Bend (2-2) plays at Liberal April 10.

GREAT BEND 16, HUTCHINSON 0 – Pitcher Sarah Mehlhaff threw a three-hit shutout and Aleah Unruh hit a three-run homer. Alyssa Keller and Olivia Urban each delivered three hits.

The Panthers scored eight first-inning runs off pitcher Marcee Krol. Urban’s three-run homer capped the rally. Baylee Beck, Alyssa Keller and Olivia Urban singled home runs. Jenna Mauler’s groundout scored a run and Olivia Urban scored.

In the second inning, Shailey Clark scored and Olivia Urban scored on an error for a 10-0 lead.

Sydner Unruh singled home a run and McKayla Williams forced home a run in a six-run third inning. Kaylee Unruh, Aleah Urban, Olivia Urban and Williams scored runs in the inning.

ANDOVER 10, GREAT BEND 0 – Kaylee Unruh delivered two singles and stole two bases, but the Panthers were shut out by Andover pitcher Sarah Conley, who struck out 13 batters. Panthers Aleah Urban and Jenna Mauler singled. The Panthers had runners on scoring position three times, but Conley worked out of trouble.

Andover’s Aubrey Peck drilled a three-run homer. Alyssa Wilmoth and Conley also homered.
