LIBERAL — Great Bend High School senior forward Michael Prieto scored the lone goal as the Panthers beat Western Athletic Conference foe Liberal 1-0 on Thursday evening.
Great Bend improves to 1-3 overall and 1-0 in WAC action.
“The most important thing is we played good,” Great Bend head coach Gus Prieto said. “It wasn’t great yet, but we were good.
“We know now that we can compete with a good team. We knew Liberal was going to be tough, and we competed.”
Center midfielder Rafael Arias fed a pass to Michael Prieto, who worked past a Liberal defender and buried the ball in the back of the net before halftime.
The Panthers host Hays on Monday at Cavanaugh Fields. The junior varsity game starts at 4 p.m., with varsity following.
