It was the highest finish of the season Great Bend High School boys’ golf team, and it happened at home.
The Panthers finished third at the Great Bend Invitational at StoneRidge Golf Club on Monday.
“I was very pleased with how we played today,” GBHS head coach Troy Stein said. “Third as a team, third in the (Western Athletic Conference) tournament. Our top four guys shot really well. Each one of them thought a swing here, a pull there and they could have played even better, so I am really pleased.
“Our JV has taken first at a tournament. Our JV has taken third at a tournament, but this is the highest the varsity has scored all year.”
Great Bend finished at 326 behind Dodge City (300) and Garden City (315).
Jeff Keenan held the top score for the Panthers at nine over par 80.
“Pretty much all year long he’s had the best score,” Stein said of Keenan. “He’s been pretty consistent right around 80, which hopefully he keeps that up.”
Aaron Mull and Chance Haney both finished at 81, and Tanner Neeland shot 84.
“Those top four guys have been leading us all year long,” Stein said. “They’ve been doing a really good job.”
Zach Kirby of Dodge City won first place at 70.
Great Bend travels to Liberal a week from today. The meet begins at 1 p.m.
