GODDARD — At the end of Saturday’s wrestling duals hosted by Goddard High School, the Great Bend Panthers stood undefeated against five different opponents.
GBHS, which is ranked No. 8 in Class 5A in the latest Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association poll, topped Wichita South 37-24, Eisenhower 71-0, Campus 51-22, Goddard 45-24 and Maize 46-25.
“I thought that we wrestled well as a team,” Panthers head coach Norbert Muth said. “We were missing Chris and Greg Burley. They were at a (Future Business Leaders of America) state thing, so not having them there allowed some others to stept up. We had a lot of kids wrestle really well.”
On Thursday, Great Bend will compete in its final regular-season dual, traveling to Hays before it hosts a Class 5A regional on Saturday, Feb. 16.
The Hays dual starts at 4 p.m.
Muth said he thought his team was where he wanted them at this point in the season.
“We still have some things we need to do, but we’re wrestling well,” Muth said. “We’ve just been working on some technique stuff, just some nitpicky things.
“Mainly, we just want to keep our cardio and legs up. There’s a fine line between over training, but still keeping that edge.”
