Cardinals claim title at Ellsworth tourney

ELLSWORTH — The Hoisington High School wrestling team capped a packed three days with the team title at the 41st Ellsworth Invitational on Saturday evening.
“I was as proud of a team as a coach can be,” Hoisington head coach Daniel Schmidt said. “We have a very young team, but in many ways, we have been putting together a great season.”
It was the third straight team title Hoisington has won this season.
The Cardinals sent six wrestlers to the title match of their respective weight classes, and came away with five first-place finishes.
Junior Brandon Ball (132-pound class), senior Avery Urban (195), senior Kagan Blackwell (220), freshman Jonathan Ball (138) and sophomore Austin McHenry (170) each claimed the title in their weight classes.
Freshman Hunter Hanzlick (152) fell in the championship match, 7-5.
On Thursday, the Cardinals won a trio of duals, beating Stafford 63-9, Thomas More Pre Marian 54-19 and Sublette 66-15.
