STERLING — They’ve done it again.
The Great Bend High School Panthers swept the Sterling Varsity Tennis Tournament on Tuesday. It is their third sweep of the season since their home invitational on Saturday, March 31.
“Both singles players dominated the field,” GBHS head coach Shannon Schartz said. “Both doubles teams played some of their best tennis in defeating two very good Sterling teams. This was our third sweep of the season, and our sixth straight first-place finish.”
The only tournament Great Bend hasn’t won this year was the season opener at McPherson. The Panthers finished fifth.
Austin Jacobs, Great Bend’s No. 1 singles player, defeated players from Haven, Smoky Valley, Chaparral and Sterling. His closest match was a 7-2 victory over Sterling.
Panthers No. 2 singles player Grant Harris went 3-0 to take first place, not dropping a game.
Nick Moyers and Chase Buntain finished first beating four doubles duos in the competition.
Adam Neeland and Ramon Garcia finished 3-0 on the day to also take first.
Great Bend will be back in action on Monday when it hosts the Western Athletic Conference tournament starting at 10 a.m.
It will be the final tournament of the regular season before a Class 5A regional tournament at Newton on Friday, May 4.
