SALINA — After just one meet, the Great Bend High School boys’ swim team has already qualified for the Class 5A state in five events.
The Panthers finished in second place behind reigning Class 5A state champion Salina South.
“We had a very good opening meet,” Panthers head coach Steve Beaumont said. “We had all three of our relays turn in state qualifying times.
“Justin Kuhlman, who’s new this year, qualified in the 200 I.M. and Kort Cook qualified in the 100 backstroke.”
The state qualifying time for the 200 I.M. is two minutes, 16.99 seconds. Kuhlman finished in second place with a time of 2:15.98.
Cook had to beat 1:02.37 to qualify for state and he clocked in at 1:01.98.
The 200 medley relay team that qualified for state with a time of 1:50.37 consists of Kort and Kade Cook, Michael Haines and Kuhlman.
Kuhlman and Kort Cook combined with Ian Sheppard and Josh Prescott to qualify in the 400 freestyle relay in a time of 3:44.31.
Kade Cook, Haines, Prescott and Sheppard qualified in the 200 freestyle relay in a time of 1:39.08.
