Pole vault leader leads Cardinals
Ball brothers qualify in four events

RUSSELL — Hoisington’s brother tandem of Jonathan Ball won the pole vault (15-61/4) and Christopher Ball won the 110-meter hurdles (16.35) as both brothers qualified for the Class 3A state track meet in four events at the 3A Russell regional.
School record-holder Jonathan Ball posted the state’s best pole vault and will compete at 8 a.m. Saturday at Wichita State. Jonathan Ball placed third in the 110 hurdles (17.2) and third in the 300 hurdles (41.98). Christopher Ball placed runner-up in the pole vault (13-0) and fourth in the 300 hurdles (42.24).
Other boys’ qualifiers were the runner-up 1,600 relay (3:35.77) with the Ball brothers, Cameron Davis and Brenner Donovan; Brenner Donovan, 400 (52.51); Jared Curtis, javelin, third (151-8); Dayne Yott, 1,600, fourth (4:59.19) and 3,200, third (10:47.77).
Fourth-place finishers Jocelynn Pedigo, discus (108-7) and Maleigha Schmidt, pole vault (10-0) also qualified for state meet.
