After a 2012 season that saw the Great Bend High School softball team ring up a 13-game win streak and a Western Athletic Conference title, the Lady Panthers had seven all-conference selections.
That includes three on the first team — Hunter Middleton, Stephanie Morrison and McKenna Mauler.
Elizabeth Barber, Braylin Bretz, Tarynn Stueder and Bonny Boultinghouse were honorable mention selections.
Selections were voted on by WAC coaches based on the players’ performance in conference games.
Great Bend head coach Carrie Minton was named WAC Coach of the Year after leading the Lady Panthers to a WAC crown with a 7-1 conference record, splitting a doubleheader with Hays for their only WAC loss.
GBHS finished the season 17-5 overall after falling to Goddard-Eisenhower 2-1 in a Class 5A regional tournament championship game.
Middleton, a freshman pitcher, had a 1.26 earned run average in 33 1-3 innings pitched against conference foes. She finished the WAC season with 34 strikeouts and a 4-1 record.
Middleton had a .324 batting average this season, .333 against WAC teams. She had nine RBIs on the year.
Junior third baseman Morrison finished the season with a .390 batting average, 32 hits and 16 RBIs.
Against WAC teams, Morrison batted .355 with nine RBIs. Her only home run of the season came on the road against Dodge City.
Mauler, Great Bend’s sophomore shortstop, finished the season with a .351 batting average, but during the conference season, that averaged rose to .448.
Mauler finished with 27 hits, including nine extra-base hits. She had 13 RBIs.
