Great Bend High School boys’ soccer head coach Gus Prieto said that he saw a lot of good things from his teams at Friday night’s preseason scrimmages.
“It was a good practice,” Prieto said. “Everyone got a chance to play. We had all 41 kids out on the field.”
The varsity ended up beating the junior varsity team 10-0, but Prieto said that early on it was nearly evenly matched.
“The first half was really good,” Prieto said. “We scored the first goal in the first five or 10 minutes, but after that it was a long time before we scored again. The JV defense did a pretty good job.”
It was another chance for Prieto to see how certain players competed in certain positions and a chance for him to evaluate the teams he will have for the 2011 campaign.
“We have some good teams in both the varsity and junior varsity,” Prieto said. “We had some pretty good goals. Varsity was able to move the ball very good.
“It was good for the kids to try different positions and a little different system.”
The Panthers’ first regular-season test will be this Thursday at 4 p.m. in Liberal.
