Quarterback Hanzlick scores five TDs in Cardinals first win

BEL AIRE — Getting ahead early proved successful for the Hoisington High School football team on Friday night.
The Cardinals beat Sunrise Christian Academy 49-32 for their first win of the season.
Quarterback Hagan Hanzlick rushed for four touchdowns and threw for another for the Cardinals. He finished with a team-leading 205 rushing yards, averaging 10.25 yards per carry.
Tailback Chance Demel also broke the century mark, rushing for 108 yards and two TDs.
Avery Urban was on the receiving end of the touchdown throw from Hanzlick for 18 yards.
Hoisington (1-2) hosts Ellinwood for a Mid-Central Activities Association matchup on Friday.
 
Ellis 40, Ellinwood 22
ELLINWOOD — Ellis scored 16 unanswered points in the second quarter to take a 22-6 lead by halftime, then matched Ellinwood point-for-point in the second half to win.
Ellis quarterback Blake Hudson led the Railroaders with 185 rushing yards. Ellis (1-2) finished with 300 total rushing yards.
Eagles running back Patrick Ringering finished with a team-leading 65 yards.
Ellinwood (0-3) travels to Hoisington on Friday night.

Macksville 28,
Kiowa County 24
GREENSBURG — The arm and legs of junior quarterback Tanner Tranbarger helped Macksville earn its first win of the season.
Tranbarger rushed for a team-leading 175 yards and three touchdowns. He also completed 14 of 22 passes for 181 yards and one score. He threw one interception.
The Mustangs held Kiowa County scoreless in the first half, and held on to win as the Mavericks scored 16 points in the fourth quarter.
Macksville (1-2) hosts Central Prairie League opponent St. John in Week 4.

Hoxie 56, Otis-Bison 22
HOXIE — Otis-Bison kept the game close for three quarters, but Hoxie scored 24 unanswered points in the final 12 minutes to pull away.
Quarterback Chase Kennedy rushed for 154 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Indians. He also completed 6 of 14 passes for 95 yards and a touchdown.
The Cougars (2-1) are on the road again on Friday when they travel to Pratt-Skyline.

Stafford 60,
Central Christian 14
STAFFORD — Stafford running back Tristin Paulsen rushed for 158 yards and two touchdowns in the Trojans’ rout of Central Christian.
Quarterback Austin Ceniti added two touchdowns  and 49 yards on the ground for Stafford.
The Trojans (2-1) travel to South Barber on Friday night.

Larned 31,
TMP Marian 21
LARNED — Larned is now 3-0 on the young season after an MCAA win.
The Indians, who are now 2-0 in their league, got 146 yards and a touchdown from tailback Brady Keith.
Larned quarterback Eason Palmer completed 10 of 16 passes for 218 yards and two scores.
The Indians travel to Ellis for Week 4.
