Regional track & field set for Friday; State golf set for Monday

Berths for the Class 5A portion of the 6-1A state track and field championships will be at stake Friday as Great Bend High School heads to Salina.
Salina Central is host for the regional, which also includes Andover, Andover Central, Hays, Newton, Salina South and Valley Center.
The meet, one of four 5A regionals throughout the state, will be held at Salina Stadium. The field events get things under way, starting at 3 p.m., followed by the track preliminaries at 4:30 and the finals at 6.
Areas schools also will be headed to regional meets on Friday.
Larned (4A) is headed to Buhler, while Hoisington (3A) is going to Beloit.
In 2A, Ellinwood is headed to Kiowa County in Greensburg and Central Plains is going to Smith Central.
In 1A, St. John, Macksville, Stafford and Pawnee Heights are all headed out west to Montezuma (South Gray), while Otis-Bison is going to nearby Hays and Lewis Field Stadium on the Fort Hays State University campus.
The all-class meet is set for Friday, May 25, and Saturday, May 26, at Wichita State’s Cessna Stadium.

State golf meets
set for Monday
State golf tournaments will be held throughout the state on Monday, including 5A at Alvamar Country Club in Lawrence, where Great Bend’s Tanner Neeland and Jeff Keenan will be competing.
Neeland, a junior, placed sixth and Keenan, a senior, placed eighth, respectively, in a playoff after the duo and two others finished at 78 during regional play last Monday at Salina Municipal Golf Course.
Larned qualified regional champion Michael Reece and 11th-place finisher Tague Conrad for the 4A meet at Dub’s Dread Golf Club in Kansas City, Kan.
Ellinwood, coming off a third-place team regional finish, will take part in the 2A meet at Spring Creek Golf Course in Seneca. The team includes Gavin Vink, Ryley Ney, Jared Oelke, Colton Churchill, Andrew Degenhardt and Trey Mosier. Vink was a fourth-place regional finisher, Ney finished fifth and Oelke took seventh — all determined on playoff holes.
Regional team champion St. John will be taking part in the 1A meet at Highlands Country Club in Hutchinson. The team includes regional champion Bryce Garner, runner-up Jacob Falk, third-place finisher Spencer Nusser and fourth-place finisher Kade Kinnamon, along with Trey Nelson and Zuriel Reyes.
The 3A meet will be played at Sugar Hills Golf Course in Goodland.
